Intercytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

The intercytoplasmic sperm injection or ICSI is a variant of in vitro fertilization, which consists of the direct introduction of a single spermatozoid inside the egg to avoid all the intermediate fertilization steps and ensure its introduction in the egg.

While its use is fairly generalized, this technique is particularly recommended for those couples with male sterility factor, such as low spermatozoid concentration or motility, as well as in those cases with low number of mature oocytes.

The direct introduction of a spermatozoid in the egg, selected by considering the best motility and morphology, increases the fertility rates with regards to the conventional IVF, despite the external manipulation in the laboratory.

When a sperm donor is required, it is worth noting that all the males are of age¿¿??, anonymous, selected considering the physical characteristics of the requesting couple, and after a thorough study to discard any congenital or sexually transmitted disease.

The pregnancy rate per cycle fluctuates between 45 % and 65 %, but in patients under 35 years of age, this figure is superior to 70 %.
