Male fertility is associated directly with good DNA status of spermatozoa, essential both in fertilization and in the early and late embryo development.
In fact, a role of nature is to select the spermatozoid with high DNA integrity for the creation of an embryo. With the assisted reproduction techniques, the sperm selection in males with sperm alterations can be performed, although with lower efficacy than in nature. This is particularly true when only one spermatozoid is selected, as is the case with the intercytoplasmic sperm injection technique or ICSI.
The DNA fragmentation test is especially recommended for those men with highly disrupted seminal patterns, recurrent abortions, and implantation failure.
